Miss Preston 2013/2014 writes about what it means to become a ‘Miss’ titleholder

If you asked me what being a ‘Miss’ titleholder was like, I wouldn’t even know where to start, there are so many things I could tell you. But truly everything I tell you wouldn’t do the feeling, or pride of having a Miss England title justice. I became Miss Preston in October 2013, by far the proudest moment of my life; I burst into tears when my name was called. I was so surprised and happy, and I had finally done it. That moment will stay with me for the rest of my life. I knew from that moment on, I had to do Preston proud and make the people of Preston believe in me.

There are many people that support the Miss England competition and follow it, however there are also people that don’t have positive things to say about the Miss England experience. These people know very little about being a ‘Miss’ and what it entails. It is much, much more than anyone would know. It is also what you make of it yourself; you have to put a lot of effort in to receive a lot of effort back. Being a ‘Miss’ titleholder isn’t just about being beautiful, you have to be an all rounder, charitable, hard working, passionate and have many more attributes, the list goes on. You have to strive to have your voice heard, what are you passionate about, what would you like to get involved in? These are just a few questions I asked myself after I won. I signed up to be an ambassador for Miss Preston, not to take the sash and crown, having those were an added bonus! Taking the sash and crown and doing nothing would be a huge insult, that’s certainly not what the Miss England competition is about.

I have been lucky enough to have been able to do so much with my title, meet many people, support local businesses and help fundraise for a number of charities including, Beauty with a purpose, The Variety Children’s charity, St Catherine’s Hospice, Help for Heroes and ABF the soldiers charity. I am so grateful for everything I have been able to take part in as Miss Preston.

Becoming Miss Preston has made me wiser, more mature and helped changed my perspective on life for the better. I have been able to take part in events I could have only dreamed of attending. Miss Preston turned these dreams into real life, and with that, I have met the most inspiring girls on my journeys from judging other heats to meeting incredible young women around Preston.

I feel extremely happy and emotional writing this final blog as your current Miss Preston but I want to share with you the amazing experiences and memories I have had. This certainly isn’t a goodbye, but a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported my year you have made it incredible and I honestly can’t thank you enough.

I cannot wait to see who will be the next Miss Preston; they have the most incredible year ahead of them. Do Preston proud, make a difference, have your voice heard, and most importantly make the most of every second. Time has flown and I can’t believe I am handing over my crown already.

Thank you so much everyone, I have been truly blessed to have such huge support, including my amazing Miss England family, you have opened my eyes up to what taking part in Miss England is really about! For girls considering it, don’t hesitate to do it, I promise you it will be the most amazing thing you!

I love each and every one of you, thank you again.

Love and best wishes, your Miss Preston 2013 & 2014 xxxx
