Miss Preston (and Miss England) Takes On Wheelchair Basketball

Elizabeth Grant, along with several other Northern beauty queens, rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in at a training session with the Bolton Bulls, a wheelchair Basketball team.

The experience was featured on the front page of Bolton News, and covered by online news outlets too, as the queens ditched their makeup and long dresses and strapped themselves into wheelchairs to have a go at the sport.

And what did they learn? That it’s much, much harder than it looks! The Bolton Bulls have been running for 33 years and compete in the mixed Third Division North league, so they thought they would have a little practice session with the competitive queens ahead of the season opener away to Aberystwyth-based West Coast Warriors.

Posting about the event on social media, Elizabeth said:

“The first time I’ve ever done something like this and I was apprehensive at first but I’m buzzing to have said I’ve tried it!

Big shout out to the young 14 year old called Cameron who was forever on my tail in defence!”
